Iwati Parana makes immediate reference to the Kukama Kukamiria culture, which builds its social and cultural structure on a principal activity, fishing, settled in the Community of Santo Tomas, on Mapacocha banks, a tributary of the Nanay river and classified as a floating zone. This is where the self-management artistic space, Correlación Contemporánea chooses to establish the Iwati Parana residency program, which works closely with these social, cultural and geographical concepts, proposing to the artists to produce, investigate and, above all, live with Kukama ancestral culture and customs.

In the first edition we received plastic, visual, audiovisual artists, photographers and curators, from different countries such as: Germany, Argentina, Canada, Spain, Mexico, Peru, Poland, the United Kingdom and Russia. Which, during the period of one month, develop projects that are a dialogue with the Peruvian Amazon, the Kukama Kukamiria Community of Santo Tomas and the context of their own production. Generating a dynamic environment, where the importance of recognizing oneself as Kukama once again takes on an important role in the daily life of the community. And in turn is known in different parts of the world, through artistic projects and research carried out during the period of residence.

Works

María Teresa Palacios (Mexico)

Maria Teresa studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts of "San Carlos", UNAM, for seven years, participating in more than 150 solo and group exhibitions in Mexico, the United States and Europe. In addition to being a painter, she has stood out for her work as Director of Art Projects, taking the Work of various Artists inside and outside the City, helping and promoting Culture.

Julian Cording (Germany/Mexico)

Graduated from the Düsseldorf Academy of Arts. The literary and mythological references in Cording's work encode color and give rise to unexpected relationships due to the interaction of the chosen materials and the development of established poetics in accumulation, transparency and density.

Roc + Marta (Catalunya)

Roc Domingo and Marta Rosell are visual artists and students of the last year of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona. During this last year, they have carried out an academic exchange in the Visual Arts degree of the Concepción University, in Chile and in Arts Faculty of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.

Christina Peake (UK)

Christina studied Fine Arts at the University of Brighton and graduated from Goldsmiths College with a Masters in Post Colonial Studies. Her fascination for cultures has been nurtured by her parents who travel frequently to the Caribbean and the South of England, consolidating her interest in other cultures, art and nature since she was a child.

Maddie McNeely (Canada)

Maddie develops her works in textiles, sculpture and video. Her main interest is the different meanings that an image acquires through repetition, association of objects, simulacra and multiplicity. In this sense. Her work is a mixture of recognizable and altered forms, related to the relationships we have with objects and spaces. Process-based techniques and artisan workmanship are an integral part of their practice.

Romina Estecher (Argentina)

He was born in Buenos Aires - Argentina (1983), where he lives and works. Her academic training had a brief passage through the Bachelor of Arts, which she decides to abandon. Since then, through open calls, he has been selected to participate in different workshops, art clinics, residency programs and exhibitions within Argentina and abroad (Germany, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru).
