What led us to establish a contemporary art residency in the Amazon?
Correlación contemporánea is a self management space that has the premise of exchange of experiences between students, young people and professionals dedicated to art production, providing a platform for dialogue and conversation to stimulate new ideas and possibilities in the context. In addition, Correlación contemporánea seeks to promote cultural exchange between artists and artisans in order to generate intercultural projects. As part of this discourse, different contexts were evaluated to select one and establish a residency program that proposed production, research and, above all, live in a community influenced by its geography and ancestral customs.
Iwati Parana | On the river 2017, emphasizes the social and cultural structure of the Kukama Kukamiria village, built on the Mapacocha banks in Nanay river, an floating zone. The residency area proposed to artists to produce and dialogue with the community structure in Santo Tomas. All these dynamics took place within a contemporary art residence that led residents and coordinators to confront the river variants that make up the Loreto region.Every residency experience must transform the concepts we have of our work as contemporary art workers, as a self management cultural space we should ask ourselves:
What effects did the Iwati Parana | Sobre el rio residency in the
coordinators, artists and the community of Santo Tomas?
