Iwati Parana /On The River - Artist in Residence Program
Location: Santo Tomas, Iquitos - Loreto, Perú.
The Iwati Parana residency program welcomes international contemporary artists for a period of one month to develop projects that dialogue from their own experience and Santo Tomás community in Iquitos, with an emphasis on rescuing the ancestral Kukama Kukamira culture. The program aims to create an environment of cultural exchange, production and research of artistic, documentary, curatorial projects, and others, contemporary art processes, that are influenced by Kukama Kukamiria ancestral practices.
The residency program is a cultural platform, where artists will have full access to the Kukama Kukamira culture that is still alive, this complements and enriches their current artists' processes. The exhibition project aims to be a tangible experience of the social processes that are managed during the period of residence. And “Iwati Parana Open Studio” works as a journey blog marked by interculturality, contemporary dialogues and the interrelation between the diverse cultural horizons within the Loreto Region. Finally, Correlación Contemporánea commits itself to the artists in residence to manage various actions within the local artistic field during their stay, however, we consider it important to maintain ties and generate dynamics that enhance the scope of experiences to other artistic circuits, mutating into a endless structures that observe a single experience from all its perspectives.
